Infused Oil
Infusing Alaskan botanicals is a process that allows extra focus. After gathering Mother Earth’s gifts on cleansed and protected ground, the process begins for each infusion. Each botanical is handled differently, according to what is ideal for infusing.
A base of organic oils soon houses the frequency of the herb or flower, allowing a dance amongst them. The base oil is one vibration and the herb or flower another. After combining, it becomes yet another matter. Adding a touch of heat to ensure a safe process is next; the infusion sits in the sun. As it does, I place a strong focus on what the overall results could be, with its own allowing. And then I sit with the material in reverence. After months of infusing in the sun and in the moon’s reflective light, I begin straining it to become its next life.
As my hands intertwine once more—with love and great respect, wishes for the wearer, and more—reverence is the constant focus. Meditation mixed with a walking trance, one with the botanicals, just as with animals or humans. When this is done in Great Spirit, that essence then intertwines with the still‑living matters. With each moment, increasing the pressure allows further moments of reverence with the matter. Thanking God/dess for its presence. Thankful for its uses. Thankful for the frequency and vibration. Thankful for the interaction. Thanking it for the effects it will have on its user, allowing the healing properties to anoint their skin and improve their attributes. Thankful for the guidance from my first batch to the current one. Thanking the moments as the aroma fills the air around us.
To witness the plant as a visual is one thing; to harvest the matters—smelling the essence, one with the moment, often barefoot, one with the earth as a whole. One with the sun as it warms all of us. One with the air as the wind gently blows. One with the sounds and the way the moments feel. Many times I collect after a gentle rain, thus allowing the wash before gathering them. As they begin to bathe in the direct sun, the rays kiss them. For many of the blooms that grow in the shade, or the ones that get kissed during the day, their glimpses of sunlight become a steady thing. I roll them about throughout the day, touching with fingers of love and gentleness. Thanking them for their presence. Thanking them for their abilities. Thanking them for the vitamins. This also allows any tiny creatures to get away safely after their long journey.
Some botanicals require full drying; others require same‑day processing. Adding them to oil in a strong ratio—less oil, more plant material. Many times a second infusion with that same oil adds more plant material and strengthens its ratio. Then setting a temperature appropriate for any bacteria, while gentle enough to avoid overheating the botanical. The process of infusion begins. After the time allotted, I remove the new matter and place it in a glass jar for further infusing in the direct rays of sunshine as they continually flow from the source of its energy. Months later, it is time for straining. The pure gold mixture allows a remembrance of that entire process. I can hear the wishes I placed with it as the aroma wafts upward, returning its essence. Now a mixture of all three or more ingredients, I can sense the return of the love in which I gave it. I can sense the moments in the sunshine, even when done in the winter, low light, and surrounded by darkness. I can sense the days as I picked them—the weather, the conversation, the company. So because of memory, sure, yet all of that is within the new matter. A creation of a unique sort that no other person can truly replicate. Sure, with the elements collected and processed, but not so much the essence of myself within it. Nor the prayers or reverence, nor the wishes for the person who places it upon them.
